IT’S OK TO CHANGE YOUR MIND …
“The people of Minneapolis set an example for the rest of the country for what it could look like to come together across the aisle to defeat something so oppressive, which is what the takeover of ICE was in Minneapolis.” Brandi Carlile on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
- Approximately 3,800 people were detained in "Operation Metro Surge" in Minneapolis that began in December of 2025. Over 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol agents occupied the city as citizens, legal residents, children, elderly, and law abiding members of the community were arbitrarily harassed, abused, detained on the streets, homes, and workplaces of the Twin Cities.
- Between 60-75% of immigrants detained have no history of criminal convictions.
- The "surge" was not a targeted effort to find dangerous criminals. The agents cast the widest possible net to interrogate and detain as many people as possible via racial profiling.
- Individuals were injured, two citizens were killed, property was damaged, legal protesters were beaten and detained, and many subsequently released without criminal charge.
- Minneapolis is not among the top 10 of states with the highest population of persons undocumented. It appears that Minnesota was targeted as a blue state with state leadership that Trump does not like.
January 7, 2026, Renee Good was shot in the head at point blank range through the driver's side window of her car while trying to turn around and drive away from ICE activity on a Minneapolis street.
January 24, 2026, Alex Pretti was shot as a legal, nonviolent protester while trying to shield another citizen from pepper spray and physical assault on a Minneapolis street.
There is no indication that Immigration, Homeland Security, or the Department of Justice intends to hold any agents accountable for the killing of these two citizens.
